Seismic Tremors Linked to Fracking

By  |

New standards for the fracking industry in Ohio.

Any operation within three miles of a fault line must have special earthquake monitoring equipment.

Officially the department of natural resources determined seismic tremors in northeast Ohio were directly linked to hydraulic fracturing.

The link is connected to the investigation of five small tremors in the Youngstown area last month.

Ohio is setting new permitting conditions in earthquake-sensitive areas and stopped drilling at the northeast Ohio site indefinitely.

A seismologist with the U.S. Department of Interior says it's the first time a link was drawn between seismic activity and fracking taking place in the marcellus-utica shale across the northeastern United States.
