Accused of shooting his own son. Mike Stanley is in jail following a 3-hour standoff that lasted into early Sunday morning.

This was the scene at Greenbrier Gardens Apartments Saturday night.
Streets closed. Apartments evacuated.

"Officers responded here regarding a domestic involving several parties which ultimately resulted in a shooting between a father and son," says Parkersburg Police Sergeant Greg Collins.

Police say Mike Stanley shot his son Bobby Kraft twice.

Investigators say he then barricaded himself inside Apartment 30, armed with a 9 mm pistol.

Negotiators could be heard from the street saying "we're trying to help you."

"We did try at great length to make contact with this guy by phone and PA, but it was unsuccessful," says Sgt. Collins.

SWAT units then forced their way into the apartment, arresting Stanley without incident.

Detectives continue to sort through the details of the case.

"We're still trying to determine where the shooting actually took place. There's some evidence outside the home, but it could have been transferred from inside. So those are some things we're trying to sort through now and that process has just begun," says Sgt. Collins.

The motive is unclear, but police say alcohol may be a factor.

Parkersburg Police charged Mike Stanley with malicious wounding.

Stanley faced a magistrate Sunday morning and failed to post his $250,000 bond. He's in the North Central Regional Jail.

His son was taken to a Charleston hospital and is expected to recover.

UPDATE: 8/18/2013 2:22 AM

A 3-hour long standoff between police and an armed man ends with the suspect in custody.

Police arrested Mike Stanley for allegedly shooting Bobby Kraft, his 27 year-old son.

Officials say they responded to a call of shots fired at about 10 o'clock Saturday night.

When officers arrived at Greenbrier Gardens Apartments, Stanley had barricaded himself inside Apartment 30 and was armed with a handgun.

Police say Kraft suffered two gunshot wounds and was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center with serious injuries. He has since been taken by helicopter to a Charleston hospital. He is expected to survive.

At that point, SWAT teams surrounded the apartment and cleared other units in the complex. Negotiators attempted to reach Stanley by phone, eventually using a bullhorn to communicate with the suspect.

SWAT forced entry into the apartment and arrested Stanley without incident.

It's unclear whether the shooting took place inside the apartment or in the parking lot. Detectives are now processing the crime scene and conducting an investigation.

While a motive is not clear, alcohol may be a factor.

Stanley is charged with malicious wounding. He'll be arraigned in Wood County Magistrate Court Sunday morning.
