Tragic news out of Athens County.
A Stewart teen dies after crashing his car into a tree.
It happened around 7:30 Monday night.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol says 18-year-old Michael Rood drove his car off Route 329, hitting an embankment and launching the car into the air.
That's when the car collided with a tree.
Troopers say the teen was not wearing a seat belt and they suspect he was driving too fast.
"Speed is suspected to be a factor. However, there were no alcohol or drugs involved. Looks like it's just purely a case of young man driving too fast for the roadway," says Lt. George Harlow.
Rood was prounced dead at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
