NWS Lifts Severe Thunderstorm Watch

UPDATE: 4:42 The NWS lifted the Severe Thunderstorm warning and watch for the viewing area. The bow echo wind storm that started in Indiana and caused considerable damage in NW Ohio along with thousands of power outages in central Ohio weakened considerably as it blew into the valley at about 4:00am.

UPDATE: 3:11 The NWS issued a Severe Thunderstorm warning for western Washington County, Athens and Morgan counties until 3:30.
The strong line of storms are expected to cross into Coolville at about 3:50. Wind gusts of 50mph are possible with heavy rain. The bow echo appears to be weakening as it moved through central Ohio. More than 20,000 people lost power according to AEP.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 6 a.m. Thursday morning is in effect for the entire MOV viewing area. This T-storm Watch replaces the Tornado Watch which was set to expire at midnight . Stay alert for strong damaging winds, vivid lightning, heavy downpours and damaging hail. Be prepared to move to a place of safety should severe weather strike overnight.

A TORNADO WARNING FOR NOBLE COUNTY WAS ISSUED AT 9:34 p.m. UNTIL 9:45 p.m. MOVING SE AT 25 MPH...THE STORM WILL JUST CLIP THE NORTHERN EDGE OF NOBLE AND MONROE COUNTIES.

The National Weather Service issue a Tornado Watch for the WTAP viewing area until 12:30 Thursday morning.

A Flood Watch has been posted from 8 pm to Thursday afternoon for the N.E. half of our viewing area. This includes Washington, Noble, Monroe, Wood, Pleasants, Ritchie, Doddridge and Wirt counties among others.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN CHARLESTON HAS ISSUED A FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF SOUTHEAST OHIO AND WEST VIRGINIA...INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...IN SOUTHEAST OHIO...WASHINGTON. IN WEST VIRGINIA... BARBOUR...BRAXTON...CALHOUN...CLAY...DODDRIDGE...GILMER...HARRISON...LEWIS...NICHOLAS...PLEASANTS...POCAHONTAS...RANDOLPH...RITCHIE...ROANE...TAYLOR...TYLER...UPSHUR...WEBSTER...WIRT AND WOOD.

* FROM 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON

* ANY HEAVY SHOWER OR THUNDERSTORM COULD DUMP AN INCH OF RAIN IN AN HOUR OR LESS. THESE DOWNPOURS WOULD CAUSE THE USUAL STREET AND POOR DRAINAGE FLOODING. HOWEVER...SEVERAL ROUNDS OF CONVECTION ARE POSSIBLE INTO EARLY THURSDAY AFTERNOON. IF RAIN
TOTALS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES AFFECT THE SAME CREEK BASIN...MORE SERIOUS FLASH FLOODING COULD OCCUR.

* STRONG RISES ARE POSSIBLE THURSDAY ON SUCH HEADWATER RIVERS...AS THE TYGART VALLEY...THE WEST FORK...THE BUCKHANNON...AND THE LITTLE KANAWHA.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION.

IF YOU LIVE ALONG A FLOOD PRONE SMALL STREAM...PLUS COUNTY AND LOCAL OFFICIALS...NEED TO CHECK WATER LEVELS FREQUENTLY IF REPETITIVE SHOWERS DEVELOP. EVEN LATE TONIGHT...THE POTENTIAL CONTINUES. HAVE A PLAN...TO TAKE FAST ACTION...SHOULD WATER LEVELS RISE QUICKLY...OR A FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS IS ISSUED.
