Stuffing a shoe box for kids this time of year can mean hope for families. This year one local pantry is giving the usual shoebox a change. Instead of sending boxes away, Gospel Mission Food Pantry hopes to give them to local needy children. It's Operation Backyard Christmas Child.
The Gospel Mission food pantry says while there are children without a Christmas across the world, but right here in Washington County there are more than too many still without necessities.
They say they hope to have over 100 boxes to be sure to serve all the children they expect for when Santa visits the pantry.
They say it just has to be an unwrapped shoe box with small gifts inside toothbrushes, stuffed animals, candy, crayons, anything appropriate that fits.
The boxes will be accepted at the Gospel Mission food pantry on Lancaster Street starting now until December 3.
