Round 12 of the governor's regional task force met Tuesday at Westbrook Health Services to discuss substance abuse prevention and solutions.
Kathy Paxton, director of substance abuse services for the state of West Virginia, says having these types of meetings are essential for change to happen.
"Change has to happen at the community level with state support and we're very fortunate to have ongoing individuals who have been here from the beginning and new individuals who I've seen and talked to tonight joining the task force," she says.
According to Paxton, hopelessness and despair often breeds more hopelessness and despair, a cycle tough to break. But West Virginia has resources available to the community.
