What could be more fun than a summer with new friends, playing outside and getting a free lunch.
"I like it 'cause it's fun and the teachers are awesome," says nine-year-old Gabby.
The 2013 Wood County Recreation Summer Playground Program runs through July 26 and sign-ups are everyday.
"You just come on site and we have the registration forms here; it's for kids that are ages five through 12," says site leader Kayla Burdette. "Parents just have to sign them in and out daily after they fill out the initial registration."
Kids get to be kids and play on the playground.
"And we get to go mini golfing and sometimes we get to go to the sandpit and play in the water sometimes when it's hot,” Gabby says.
The activities are endless...
"They can also do crafts, we go up and do Putt Putt Golf, we have water days – they color and play games and just basically make friendships and meet new kids,” Burdette says.
The program is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it's completely free of charge.
"We provide lunch at 10:30 everyday for all the kids and snack at 1:30,” Burdette says. “Any kids that are at the park that want to come over and have lunch even if they're not signed up can come over and eat as well."
For her first year as a site leader, Kayla is having a blast.
"The kids are great, they are forming bonds with each other and with the staff and they enjoy coming,” she says.
It's all about fun for Gabby.
“I think because they put a new playground on,” she says.
You have one more month to sign up your kids for a summer of fun and free lunches.
