The Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a series of workshops for kids.

Saturday was the sixth workshop and it was focused on forestry.

It's an effort to get kids interested in conserving natural wildlife and helps educate adults about the refuge as well.

"The refuge's objective is we're trying to protect habitat for lots of different animals here particularly at this refuge freshwater mussels and migratory birds. So in order to protect that habitat it's important for the public to know and understand what we're trying to do," says visitor services manager Matthew MaGruder.

For more information on future workshops you can call the refuge at 304-375-2923 ext. 117.
