The Importance of Buckling Up

Fatal accidents on Washington and Morgan County roads have increased this year.

And some of them involved people who were not wearing a seat belt.

That was also true for more than half of those who died on Ohio highways during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

That's why the Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding all drivers to buckle up during the upcoming holiday season and continue to do so throughout 2014.

"Wearing a seat belt definitely decreases your chance of injuries," says Lt. Carlos Smith, Commander of the Marietta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. "Please buckle up and use every avenue you have to save your life if you're involved in a traffic crash."

Ohio's seat belt law is a secondary violation.

Still, troopers continue to enforce the law when drivers are stopped for other violations and found not to be wearing their belt.
