A tractor-trailer accident has shut down traffic on Interstate-77, between Emerson Ave.\Rt. 2 and Rt. 50.
The accident happened sometime after 12pm, near the 178 milepost.
Wood County Sheriff's Deputy M.C. Hupp says the truck wrecked, before it caught fire.
The truck was hauling palates for oil and gas wells, which spilled onto the roadway.
The fire then sent a large cloud of smoke into the air, which was seen and photographed by several motorists.
One lane in both the northbound and southbound directions of the interstate was opened by mid-afternoon. The accident closed down both northbound lanes for several hours.
Wood Co. dispatchers say the driver was not injured.
The West Virginia Department Of Highways says it is not known when the closed lanes will re-opened.
