The Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley celebrated Veterans Day Friday by awarding a scholarship to a local high school student.
Parkersburg High School senior Jay Powell was awarded the scholarship, for his participation in the museum's program.
Powell, in addition to being required to read three books, gave tours of the museum and interviewed a veteran.
Powell's uncle served during the Vietnam war, and his cousin currently is serving in Iraq.
"It's very special what they do in this country," Powell told us. "It means a lot to me, and I'm sure it means a lot to other people as well."
The award came during the museum's open house, in special observance of Veterans Day.
Both veterans and non-veterans passed through to have a look at the museum's increasing number of exhibits and tributes to local servicemen and women, both past and present.
