There's a new man in charge of the Vienna Fire Department.
Steve Scholl was named to the post last night by Mayor Randy Rapp.
Scholl is a veteran of the department, serving for nearly 37 years.
He has been serving as chief on an interim basis, since the death last month of long-time chief Danny Goodwin.
"A lot of people have said, 'you have some big shoes to fill'," Scholl said Friday in an interview with WTAP. "People know me, and filling shoes is not a problem. Filling Chief Goodwin's heart is going to be a problem; he had a heart of gold. And we're going to try to keep those traditions going."
Among those traditions, is maintaining the department's status as one of the best in West Virginia.
Scholl is a second-generation fire chief.
His father, George Scholl, headed the fire department in the early 1980's.

Funeral services are set for Saturday for the long-time chief of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department, who died earlier this week.
Danny Goodwin died late Monday night at the age of 67, after being hospitalized shortly before Christmas.
Services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00, at Wayside United Methodist church in Vienna.
Goodwin will be buried near Weston, West Virginia.
Visitation is set for Friday afternoon from 2:00-4:00, and Friday night from 6:00-8:00.
The funeral service will be followed by a procession beginning at the church and continuing to the burial site.
Goodwin served as the fire department's chief for 23 years, and was a member of the department for more than 40 years.
Danny Goodwin, a member of the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department for more than 40 years, and its chief since 1990, died early Tuesday morning. He was 67.
Vienna Councilman Paul Thornton, a friend of Goodwin for 40 years, said he entered the hospital with a lung infection just before Christmas.
Goodwin was a member of the Vienna Fire Department for 42 years, entering in the 1970's. He was appointed chief in 19-90, serving for 23 years.
During his years in charge, the department made what Thornton described as tremendous strides in staffing and equipment.
For all of last year, the city's losses from fires totalled just $59,000.
Recently, Vienna's fire insurance rating has been among the best in the country for a city of its size.
Both Thornton and Vienna Mayor Randall Rapp said Goodwin was one of the most respected fire chiefs in West Virginia.
Mayor Rapp will have the task of naming Goodwin's successor, who he says will likely come from within the department.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
