Walk This Way

Adding moderate physical activity to the daily routine was the reason Highmark employees were walking through downtown Parkersburg on their lunch hour Wednesday.

Downtown workers participate in National Walk @ Lunch Day

Lunch hour can be a drag if you just sit at your desk., so why not drag yourself out for some fresh air.

And Wednesday was a nice day to do it.

That's why, for the past six years, Highmark of West Virginia has been a sponsor of national walk at lunch day.

It's aimed at getting folks to use their lunch hour for a healthy walk.

"When you have a company that provides health benefits," says West Virginia Commerce Director Keith Burdette, "and they have employees who are not healthy, it drives their costs up. And West Virginia needs to do more to be healthy, for their own benefits, as well as an employee in a company."

Burdette joined public officials and Highmark employees in this year's walk, starting at Bicentennial Park and ending at Highmark headquarters.
