Candidates for Warren Local Schools new superintendent will be at a special community meeting Saturday morning at Warren High School.

It starts at 9 A.M in the auditorium.

If you go to our "Hot Button" on our homepage, you'll find a form you can use to ask questions of the candidates ahead of Saturday's meeting.

Lots of changes coming for Warren Local School District, an eventful Board of Education meeting Monday night leaves five main positions open and busing coming back.

The Board voted unanimously to bring back high school busing for the upcoming school year. The high school went the last two school years.

Also at the meeting, five administrators announced they won't be returning for the next school year. First, as anticipated, Superintendent Tom Gibbs and along with him both the Principal and Assistant Principal of Warren High School do not plan to return, along with both the Principal and Assistant Principal of Barlow Vincent Elementary.

Now all five have plans to move to different school districts.

Superintendent Tom Gibbs will become the associate superintendent in Athens City school District.
Warren High Principal Dan Leffingwell will be leaving to become the superintendent of Noble Local Schools.
Warren High Assistant Principal Dave Hanning has also accepted a new position as principal of Athens High School.
Barlow-Vincent Elementary Principal Stephanie Starcher will become the superintendent of Fort Frye Local School District. Gibbs also served as superintendent for that district this past school year.
And finally, Barlow-Vincent Assistant Principal Rebecca Johnson will be the new principal of Caldwell Elementary School.

As for hiring a new superintendent the Board plans to move the hiring process along quickly. In anticipation of Gibbs leaving a special meeting was already held to set a schedule.

Candidate have until May 28 to apply for the position. The Board will meet May 30 in a closed session to review the applicants.

Then the public will get a chance to be part of the process. There will be an open meeting June 8 at 9:00 a.m. at the high school were questions can be submitted and the candidates will answer.

The Board hopes to hire the following Monday, June 10

Warren local schools loses its superintendent tonight. Warren rates effective on the statewide district report card but the growing Barlow Township hasn't been able to pass a levy for new buildings.

Gibbs has been with Warren schools as the superintendent for eight years and Fort Frye for only one. Gibbs says he learned a lot during his time with Warren however without him, Warren's sense of shared leadership will help them succeed.

Gibbs leaves Warren knowing they need to make some physical improvements as he pushed for the levy a total of six times, which all failed. Gibbs says balancing academics, business operations and facilities is always a concern however, the kids are most important.

"Both districts, the parents and the community members are both supportive of the schools in general and specifically the children, and I just hope that that continues. The kids need to know that the community's behind them. And that allows them to have the confidence to go out and be successful and represent the community well," said Tom Gibbs, superintendent Warren Local Schools.

Gibbs says he is very confident Warren will use the community input like they did with him to hire a new superintendent.

Fort Frye has already hired Stephanie Starcher, as Gibbs replacement.

Gibbs says this is the next step in his career and what is best for his family.
