A Washington County Lieutenant is recovering in the hospital after accidentally shooting himself Tuesday evening.
Lieutenant Mark Johnson had just arrived home from work and was taking his gun off of its holster when it became stuck, he tugged on it and the gun accidentally went off.
Johnson was shot in the stomach and rushed to the hospital.
After undergoing a two hour surgery Johnson is in stable condition at Marietta Memorial Hospital where he will stay for several days.
The sheriff says nothing like this has ever happened in their department before.
