Washington County authorities battled a brush fire Saturday afternoon.
It happened around 3:00 on Dugan Road north of Belpre.
The Washington County Sheriff's Office says the fire damaged about three-fourths of an acre on the property.
But fortunately the sheriff's office and emergency crews from Little Hocking and Dunham contained the flames pretty quickly.
No one was hurt but the sheriff's office says the situation was very dangerous.
"Some people were burning their garden and all of a sudden it got away from them. As dry as it was, it spread. It was headed toward actually a natural gas pipeline which they managed to get that shut off before it got there. Also, the fire department arrived very quickly and they were able to extinguish the flames," says Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks.
Sheriff Mincks would like to remind everyone that outdoor burning between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. is illegal.
The sheriff suggests burning later at night, and keeping a lot of water close by just in case.
