Black belts from the Almost Heaven Aikido and Judo Academy were on hand tonight in support of Domestic Violence Week. While demonstrating some easy moves women can use to defend themselves, they emphasized how important it is to practice those safety measures.
They also said it is a mindset. One that women must have if they're to get away safely.
"If they're attacking you, they've already made that choice. You have to understand that that choice has been made for you," says First Degree Black Belt Brian Swisher. "You have to do whatever it takes to get out of that situation and be safe."
Swisher says these moves have saved lives of women he's worked with. The main message is to get free and run to safety.
