$104,000 and every penny you gave here, stays here.
The Wood County Society Telethon Sunday was a huge success.
The annual telethon was held Sunday at the Blennerhassett Hotel.
It supports the Wood County Society's 11 programs helping adults and children with disabilities.
The group's goal this year was to raise more than $100,000 and that goal was reached.
During the telethon WTAP's Jim Wharton was honored for more than 30 years working with the telethon.
But he'll be the first to tell you Sunday was most importantly about the people being helped.
And thanks to the community a summer trip to Camp Echo will once again be a reality.
The Wood County Society's annual "Celebration For Kids" telethon returns Sunday at the Blennerhassett Hotel.
They improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities.
Now the community is coming together to help them.
The telethon began back in the 70s.
This year the goal is to raise more than $100,000.
Organizers say all the money raised here will stay here.
"Other than the grants that we write and also we're also a United Way Agency... other than those monies, we have no other income or fundraisers going on," says Society Executive Director Jane Stephens.
From Camp Echo to adapted aquatics, all of the organization's programs are free.
And looking forward to another successful telethon, they hope to keep it that way.
