Shortly after 2:30 Friday afternoon the Deerwalk, Waverly, Lubeck and Eastwood Volunteer Fire Departments were dispatched to a home on McMullen Lane.

When crews arrived they quickly found and extinguished the fire which firefighters think began in the kitchen. Deerwalk Volunteer Lieutenant Jeremiah Whitlatch says although the home sustained heavy damage he believes the house is still livable because the home owner called for help immediately.

"This individual that owns this house notified the fire department as soon as she saw smoke," Lt. Whitlatch explains. "We were able to get here in a relatively quick amount of time and the structure is still standing. Versus if you try to put it out yourself it could result in the loss of the home."

Officials are now investigating what caused the fire.
