Wreaths Across America in Parkersburg

By  |

Military personnel around the nation are conducting the "Wreaths Across America" ceremony honoring troops of the past and present.

And the ceremony took the valley by storm Saturday.

Parkersburg Civil Air Patrol and community members gathered at the City Park's Veterans Memorial to pay tribute to local soldiers who fought for our country and those currently in combat.

Each of the seven wreaths represent troops from all of the armed forces including the Merchant Marines and the POW.

Captain Sixto Velez was on hand giving a speech reminding everyone to remember the soldiers that fought for our freedom.

"We need to teach our young people that our freedoms were brought with a price, it wasn't free. We had to, you know, fight for our freedoms and our way of life," says Captain Aaron Richards.

Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization that continues and expands the annual wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
