Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia officials are projecting that the state's prison population will continue to grow substantially over the next decade.
A report by the State Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety shows that the State Division of Corrections had custody of 6,681 inmates at the end of 2010.
The number of prisoners is expected to increase to 8,251 by 2015 and to 9,732 by 2010, according to the report, obtained by the Charleston Gazette.
