Change Your Clocks Change Your Batteries

Updated: Sat 5:33 PM, Mar 09, 2013

Don't forget to spring ahead this Sunday and change your smoke alarm batteries too.

Captain Tim Flinn of the Parkersburg Fire Department says smoke detectors are constantly working for you.

They're a relatively inexpensive device that scans 24 hours a day whether you're asleep, on vacation or doing pretty much anything.

It's good to get in the habit of changing your batteries as you change your clocks.

"Spring actually kicks off the spring forest fire season, with that the time change," Flinn says. "The time change traditionally is the time you should change your smoke detector battery, your carbon monoxide detector battery and when you do change them make sure you test the devices that they're working."

Captain Flinn says smoke detectors recently saved several lives locally.

He says your chances of survival increase fifty percent with a working smoke detector, so don't underestimate what they can do for you.
