Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- Monday is the deadline for Mercer County residents who lost jobs or income because of may's storms to apply for disaster unemployment assistance.
The state division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says in a posting on twitter that storm victims can seek help at any Workforce West Virginia Center.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor web site, in order to qualify for this benefit, a person's job or business must have been lost or interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster declared by the President.
The applicant also must have been determined ineligible for regular unemployment insurance benefits under any state or federal law.
