Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- State police are trying to determine who sent Gov. Joe Manchin's office five laptop computers it did not order.

Manchin spokesman Matt Turner said Tuesday four compaq-brand laptops arrived at the governor's office on Aug. 5.

A fifth machine arrived several days later.

Compaq is owned by Hewlett-Packard, which has the statewide contract for computer equipment.

But, Turner says no one in the governor's office ordered the machines.

The machines arrived in Hewlett-Packard boxes with no return address.

A message to a Hewlett-Packard spokesperson was not immediately returned Tuesday.

Turner says the machines were turned over to the state police so it could investigate the order.
