Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- West Virginia is receiving $4.5 million in federal funding for U.S. Forest Service projects.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing the funds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. U.S. Sens. Jay Rockefeller and Robert C. Byrd and congressman Nick Rahall announced the funds Wednesday.

The funding is for projects in Mercer, Monongalia, Pocahontas and Tucker counties.

They include replacing deteriorated materials and equipment at three research stations, maintaining trails, and improving roads and fish habitat conditions.
