Cincinnati (AP) -- The president of the City College of New York has been selected as the new president of the University of Cincinnati.
Muncie, Ind., native Gregory Williams is a former dean of Ohio State University's Law School.
Trustees on Wednesday selected Williams as Cincinnati's 27th president.
He succeeds Nancy Zimpher, who left June 1 to become chancellor of the State University of New York.
The 65-year-old Williams is an attorney and a product of a biracial marriage who considers himself to be African-American.
UC officials say they are impressed by enrollment increases and toughened admissions standards under Williams at CCNY, which now has 16,000 students.
Cincinnati has more than 37,000 students and 16,000 employees.
