Huntington, W.Va. (AP) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says it's awarded $2.9 million in contracts for inspections of levees and flood walls in West Virginia.
The agency says inspections in its Huntington district are expected to start next month and continue through spring.
While levees and flood walls undergo operations and maintenance inspections annually, the Corps says this winter's inspections are more rigorous.
Money for the inspections was included in the $787 billion federal stimulus plan.
