Officials are investigating the cause of a house fire that occured Wednesday morning on Winding Road in Wood County.

The call came in around 2:30 a.m. about a house fire on the 2600 block of Winding Road off of State Route 50.

Three fire departments responded to the blaze which is believed to have started in the laundry room.

There were flames shooting out from the roof when firefighters arrived, according to Deer Walk Fire Chief Kim Marshall.

"It was complicated because it was in the ceiling between the roof, " he said. "There was a lot of effort put in to find it and get to it. It was hard to access, but we got in under control."

There were two people home at the time of the fire, however they were able to escape without injuries, Marshall said.
