WV Woman Who Tried to Kill President Ford Released from Prison

(AP) -- Sara Jane Moore was paroled Monday from a federal penitentiary east of San Francisco after serving 32 years of a life sentence. Prison officials wouldn't provide any details on why the 77-year-old Charleston native was released.

Moore fired a shot at Ford outside a hotel in San Francisco on September 22nd, 1975. A man standing next to her pushed up her arm and the bullet missed Ford by several feet.

In recent interviews, Moore said she regretted her actions. She said she was blinded by her radical political views and convinced that the government had declared war on advocates of left-wing politics.

There was no immediate comment from the Ford family on Moore's release.
