Morgantown, W.V. (AP) -- A stone castle with turrets and parapets, a wrought iron staircase, marble fireplace and more than 25,000 square feet of space overlooking cheat lake is for sale for 2.8 million dollars.
Italian immigrant and stonemason Thoney Pietro built the Monongalia County castle during the depression for $200,000.
The 14-plus-acre property includes a dormitory and a romanesque chapel featuring imported stained glass and a domed ceiling made of Oregon Fir.
For decades, the Good Counsel Friary used the property as a training facility, church and retreat. It also set up a bible walk featuring mannequins depicting biblical scenes in the forest out back.
The property went on the market after the Rev. Jude Mili, a resident since 1968, died last year.
