FAIRMONT, W.Va. (AP) - Police in Marion County are searching for a jail inmate who swapped identification bracelets and clothing with another inmate and then was released on home confinement.
State Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety spokesman Lawrence Messina says Kevin Gregory of Fairmont walked out of the Marion County Courthouse on Tuesday.
Messina says North Central Regional Jail inmate Bruce Clayton was scheduled to be in court in Marion County. But Gregory appeared in court instead of Clayton, bypassed a reporting center after his appearance and walked out of the courthouse in street clothes. Now the Marion County Sheriff's Department is looking for him.
Gregory was arrested in June for failing to register as a sex offender in Virginia.
