Marshall University Receives Grant For Medical Program

Huntington, W.Va. (AP) -- The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has given Marshall University $1.35 million for cancer screening projects.

Sen. Robert C. Byrd's office says the funds will support continuing operation of two mobile medical units that provide cancer screening and disease prevention programs, among other things, in southern West Virginia.

Byrd's office says some of the money also goes to the University's Center for Rural Health to develop skills to develop a "virtual colonoscopy" program in collaboration with Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Byrd, who chairs the Senate Appropriations Committee, helped secure the funds.
