Ohio Schools Chief To Leave In October

Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Ohio Public Schools Superintendent Susan Tave Zelman is leaving to take a job with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Zelman said Tuesday that she's accepted a position as Vice President for Education and Children's Content in Washington, D.C.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is the largest source of funding for public television and radio programming.

Zelman had announced in May that she would step down amid a plan by Gov. Ted Strickland to replace her with an Education Chief Accountable to him instead of the State Board of Education.

Zelman has been schools chief for nine years.

Her last day will be Oct. 31. She said a search firm hired by the Board of Education continues to solicit candidates for the job.
