AT&T Offers Reward In Telephone Cable Thefts

Charleston, W.Va. (AP) -- AT&T is offering a $2,500 reward in a rash of copper telephone cable thefts in Braxton County.

AT&T said Wednesday the cables were stolen recently in an area near Little Birch.

The reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

Tampering with phone lines used by the public to make emergency calls or request assistance is a felony under federal law.

Erika Thompson with AT&T said the company believes the reward will motivate people with information to come forward.

West Virginia has seen brazen thefts of copper and other metals from telephone and power lines to public monuments, and even gutters and downspouts on homes.
