Fayetteville, W.Va. (AP) -- More than 400 jumpers are registered to parachute off the New River Ggorge Bridge on October 18, while 22 teams of climbers will rappel from its sides.
Cindy Ddragan, Chairwoman of the annual Bridge Day adrenaline fest, said Monday that vendor sites are almost sold out, too. There are more than 180.
Bridge day, held the third Saturday in October, is the one day a year it's legal to walk on or jump off the 876-foot high span. But only if you're pre-approved.
While thousands of people will crowd onto the bridge and watch the action from above, West Virginia American Water and the New River Juniors are also offering a $50 per person view from down under.
Participants will take a van to the bottom of the gorge at either 8:30 a.m. Or 12:30 p.m.
