Top Ohio Democrats Spending Big For Inauguration

Cleveland (AP) -- Ohio Democrats are making big plans for this month's Presidential Inauguration in Washington, D.C.

Party officials, elected officials and former office holders have purchased every one of the state party's 150 allotted rooms at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel near the White House.

The price tag for celebrating Barack Obama's swearing-in is a minimum of $4,000 for the four-night stay beginning Jan. 17. Obama is to be inaugurated on Jan. 20.

For $6,000, Ohio Democrats have the option of upgrading to suites.

The Mayflower rooms come with two tickets to Ohio's Jan. 18 Gala, which includes an appearance by Ohio State University's Marching Band.

Former U.S. Rep. Dennis Eckart, who was an adviser to Obama's Ohio campaign, says the state party's inauguration hotel package is cheaper than other deals being offered.
