Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- Officials at Monongalia General Hospital want a role in recruiting new heart surgeons, saying they're not satisfied with West Virginia University's efforts.

For more than two decades, Mon General had a partnership on heart surgeries with West Virginia University Hospitals.

But in may, with only one surgeon covering both hospitals, concerns about safety led to a moratorium on surgeries.

The moratorium was lifted after Mon General signed a short-term contract with a team of Charleston heart surgeons.

Mon General Chief Dave Robertson says staffing is the same as it was a year ago, and he wants the hospital to have a more active recruiting role.

WVU Heart Institute administrator Wayne Cochran says WVU hopes to make at least one new hire this month.
