Rockefeller Urges Release Of Plant Blast Details

Charleston, WV (AP) -- West Virginia Sen. Jay Rockefeller is weighing in on a dispute between Bayer Cropscience and the National Chemical Safety Hazard Investigation board.

The chemical company is invoking a federal law to limit the amount of information the board can release at a public hearing later this month.

The board plans to release information on its investigation into last August's explosion at a Bayer Cropscience plant in the Kanawha Valley.

The explosion resulted in the deaths of two workers.

Bayer says details about the plant should be kept out of the report as a matter of national security under the Maritime Transportation Safety Act.

Rockefeller says he's concerned Bayer's reliance on the act could harm future investigations and curb the public's right to know.
