World's Oldest Person Celebrates 115th Birthday In LA

Los angeles (AP) -- The world's oldest known living person is celebrating her 115th birthday in Los Angeles.

Gertrude Baines was honored Tuesday at Western Convalescent Hospital with music, a letter from the President, and two cakes.

She also received a proclamation from Guinness World Records acknowledging her as the world's oldest person.

The former Ohio State University employee was born in 1894 in Shellman, GA.

She became the world's oldest living person when a 115-year-old woman, Maria De Jesus, died in Portugal in January.

Baines' physician said she only has two complaints.

The bacon at the Convalescent Hospital isn't crisp enough and she has arthritis in her knees.

Baines worked as a maid in Ohio State dormitories until her retirement.
