Columbus, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities say a technician was crushed by an elevator and died while working in a closed hotel near the Ohio State University campus.
Battalion Chief David Whiting of the Columbus Division of Fire says it appears the man was pinned monday morning between a moving elevator and a ladder leading to the bottom of the elevator shaft.
Another worker eventually shut it down.
Whiting says it's not clear why the elevator was operating at the time.
Authorities have not released the name of the 52-year-old technician, who worked for oracle elevator.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating.
The former Holiday Inn is being converted to a student dormitory.
The university has no immediate comment.
