Manchin Touts Accomplishments Of Legislative Session

Charleston, WV (AP) -- A lot of attention has been given to what the West Virginia Legislature didn't do in its 60 day session, and governor Manchin says it's time to focus on what was accomplished.

Monday at the Capitol, Manchin said four major accomplishments stand out from the session.

He touted bills shoring up unemployment compensation, requiring the swift reporting of industrial accidents, preventing public officials from collecting pensions and salary at the same time, and positioning the state to develop alternative energy sources.

All of those were initiatives that came from Manchin and were passed by both the House of Delegates and the Senate.

Manchin is expected to sign the bills into law.

The state still doesn't have a budget for the coming fiscal year, though, and the legislature will come back to Charleston on May 26 for a 10-day session to work on that.
