Morgantown, WV (AP) -- West Virginia University's interim president says tuition may go up as much as 4 percent this fall.
Peter Magrath told the faculty senate on Monday that an increase likely will be needed to offset an anticipated cut in state funding.
WVU received about $205.2 million from the state during the 2009 fiscal year.
Another $271.3 million of the university's income came from tuition.
Total income was about $823.2 million.
Magrath said fall tuition rates will likely be set in June after state lawmakers reconvene to consider next year's budget.
Undergraduate tuition now costs about $5,100 a year for in-state students and about $15,768 a year for out-of-state students.
