Charleston, WV (AP) -- Gov. Joe Manchin is now deciding the fate of the few major health bills to emerge from a legislative session that left many others banged up and stranded in various committees.
The most significant piece of legislation would create a new executive branch office to oversee health initiatives.
It also would establish pilot programs for so-called "medical home" models of treatment.
Both measures were endorsed by a working group convened last year to recommend changes to the state's health care system.
Manchin has not committed to signing the bill yet, but says it looks like a good step for the state.
A bill increasing payments to some mental health providers, though, still faces opposition from the state health agency.
