Morgantown, W.Va. (AP) -- Former astronaut and West Virginia native Jon McBride is kicking off a three-day aviation summer camp for about 50 middle school students from 16 schools.
The camp begins Thursday on the campus of West Virginia University but will take students to the Challenger Learning Center at Wheeling Jesuit University on Friday.
On Saturday, the group will travel to the Morgantown Municipal Airport for an aviation day event that includes tours of the air traffic control tower, basic flight school classes, mini c-130 rides and the chance to see aircraft up close and personal.
Organizers say that event will involve some 500 children.
The camp is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Aerospace Complex in Bridgeport.
