CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Another lawsuit involving pelvic mesh goes to trial in West Virginia.

Media outlets report that jury selection began Monday in U.S. District Court in Charleston.

A dozen plaintiffs filed the lawsuit in Texas in 2012. It is among about 50,000 cases filed nationwide that were transferred to West Virginia as part of federal multidistrict litigation. U.S. District Judge Joseph R. Goodwin selected the lawsuit and several other "bellwether" cases to serve as representative cases.

Defendants in the lawsuit are Johnson & Johnson, Ethicon Inc., Ethicon Women's Health and Urology, Gynecare and American Medical Systems Inc.

The lawsuit says the pelvic mesh has high rates of failure and can shrink, degrade or break off in the body.
