MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. (AP) - A Boy Scouts of America spokesman says an adult staff volunteer has died at the Scouts National Jamboree in West Virginia.
BSA national spokesman Deron Smith said Tuesday the man collapsed while walking from his camp. Emergency medical staff responded immediately and performed CPR. The man was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The man's identity and hometown weren't released. Smith said he was from out of state.
Saturday's death was the first at this year's Jamboree, which ends Wednesday.
About 30,000 Scouts and their leaders are attending the Jamboree that also includes thousands of staff and volunteers.
Previous Jamborees also have been marked by tragedy. In 2005, four Boy Scout leaders were electrocuted when a pole on a large tent they were erecting touched overhead electrical lines.
