MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the death of an Eastern Regional Jail inmate.
The Journal reports that jail staff found 30-year-old John A. Poole of Hedgesville hanging from a sheet inside his cell last Saturday night. Jail Administrator John Sheeley said Thursday that jail medical staff and emergency services personnel were unable to resuscitate Poole.
Jail authorities and the West Virginia State Police are both investigating.
Poole was checked into the jail on Dec. 28 for alleged probation violations. He was given a one- to 10-year suspended prison sentence and five years of probation after pleading guilty in 2009 to felony grand larceny.
