Early Absentee Votes In W.V. Election Top 23,000

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Early and absentee ballots have topped 23,000 in West Virginia's special gubernatorial election.

Figures from the Secretary of State's Office show 23,239 early and absentee ballots have been cast as of Tuesday morning.

More than 2,400 ballots have been cast in Kanawha County. Wood County is second with 1,388 ballots and Monongalia County is third with 1,352 ballots.

Calhoun, McDowell, and Monroe and Wirt counties won't report their early voting and absentee totals until after the early voting period ends Oct. 1.

The election is Oct. 4.
