Grants To Benefit Young Offenders In W.Va., Va.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - Programs in Virginia and West Virginia will benefit from part of a $50 million federal grant to give previously incarcerated young people job training, education and support.

The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday awarded $1.2 million apiece to the Human Resource Development Foundation Inc. in Morgantown, W.Va., and to Total Action Against Poverty in Roanoke, Va.

Labor Secretary Hilda Solis says juveniles and young adults deserve the chance to change their lives, and the new grants will help them do that.

The money was awarded through a competitive process.
