WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) - Demolition crews tear down a southern Ohio landmark restaurant after it was gutted by fire.

The historic Emmitt House in Waverly has stood in the center of the village since 1861, first as a hotel and most recently as a restaurant.

The three-story brick building went up Monday night in a spectacular blaze as firefighters dealt with frigid temperatures trying to put it out. Heavy equipment was brought in to demolish the building Tuesday.

The building had gone through several owners over recent years and several openings and closings. The current owner had reopened it in September. It had gained notoriety for supposedly being haunted, and has been featured on national TV shows in recent years.

Waverly is about 60 miles south of Columbus.
